To go to San Vicente one has to take the boat from San Isidro, N. Samar, the first town of N. Samar if one is coming from Calbayog. The boat docks at the private port of Sanvic, a large business establishment in the town. There is only one trip daily to San Vicente. With a fare of 100 pesos, the boat departs every two o’clock in the afternoon. From San Vicente the departure time is seven o’clock in the morning. Since there were plenty of cement bags that they were trying to load, our boat actually left at 2:35pm that day.

We had an uneventful two hours and fifteen minutes ride to San Vicente. Fr. Rey Lagrimas, the mission priest in San Vicente was already waiting with native snacks of bibingka and fried bananas ready when we arrived at the convent. I had previously asked him if he could be the one to prepare our meals and to secure a boat in going to the islands. The island beaches of San Vicente are still a 45 minute boat ride from the town proper. Since it was already getting late we had to hurry so that we could arrive in the island of Sila, the island where the pink beach is found and where we planned to have an overnight camping before it got very dark. Breathtaking beaches abound the island of San Vicente, which are ideal for swimming and a paradise for scuba divers. San Vicente has 7 islets called the Naranjo Group. On the way to these islets, you could see whales and dolphins frolicking along motorboats. The place is also ideal for snorkeling because of the unexploited coral reefs that serve as homes for juvenile sea creatures. Beaches have panoramic views. The tip of Bicol region is visible from this place. Sandy white beaches and crystal aquamarine waters are conducive for swimming. The town of San Vicente, N. Samar is composed of seven islands. The main town of San Vicente lies isolated south from the six other islands which composes the town of San Vicente. The six other islands which almost face each other like in a circle are Sila (which boasts of a pink sand beach), Tarnate, Sangputan, Panganoron, Maragat and Mahaba. The beautiful beaches are found in these group of six islands. In San Vicente there is only one small cove where people usually go for swimming. San Vicente was formerly known as Destacado island. When it became a town separate from Capul, it was changed to San Vicente, however one barangay in the main town retained its name as Destacado. San Vicente is not yet a parish but only a mission station although having its own permanent priest assigned.
