INTERESTING PLACES IN ROMBLON

A cluster of 20 islands and islets, of 17 municipalities and 17 dialects is the province of Romblon, the marble capital of the country. Its capital town, also named Romblon in the island of the same name is the heart of the province, geographically and politically.

This island capital is situated in between the bigger islands of Sibuyan and Tablas. Sibuyan Island is known for its white sand beaches and for Mt. Guiting-Guiting, a favorite trek for mountaineers, while Tablas Island also harbors great beaches apart from being the gateway to the province by air.

But Romblon Island beckons everyone with its own beauty – numerous unspoiled dive sites, white sand island beaches and caves, lovely people and its inland treasures of historical and religious significance. Go island and beach hopping to best experience the sand, sea and sun of one of the most overlooked destinations in the country.  Read More:  http://www.lakwatsero.com/destinations/travel-guide-romblon-island/

Tinagong Dagat

Tinagong Dagat, which translates to “Hidden Sea”, is a salt lake (actually there’s two!) carved into the limestone rock of Kabibihan Point – the northern most tip of Tablas Island.   The lakes rest in the impressive shadow of Mount Payapao, the highest point on Tablas, and they make for a good picnic spot or quiet retreat.  The lakes are actually connected to the sea via underground channels, the geology of which causes the lakes to be high when the sea is low-tide and vice-versa.  The second, smaller lake, which is hidden through the trees beyond the first, also hosts a local legend: a ‘white turtle’ or spirit stands as guardian.  Superstitious locals won’t risk the swim!  Then again, the lakes are better known for their scenery than their swimming anyway, but the lakes are close by to Lapus-Lapus beach if you want a nice place to swim. Mt. Guiting-Guiting

I had always been curious why, at only about 2000 meters in elevation, Mt. Guiting Guiting is rated as one of the most difficult mountains to climb in the Philippines. It doesn’t have the freezing temperatures of Mt. Pulag, the overgrown and thick vegetation of Mt. Makiling nor the height of Mt. Apo and yet it has gained the respect of many mountaineers.

It has always been on my wish list but I never really thought I would climb it, mostly because it requires at least four days to complete the climb if you’re coming from Manila, it is quite expensive compared to other climbing trips, and I wasn’t really confident I was fit enough to scale its difficult terrain. Stories, write ups and pictures of scary knife edge ridge and rock cliffs didn’t help either.  Read More:  http://www.lakwatseradeprimera.com/sibuyan-island-conquering-mt-guiting-guiting/

Cobrador Island

Cobrador is the largest among the islets dotting the seas around Romblon.Reputed to hold deposits of rare black, gold, and green marble. The best sweetsop and papaya are also grown here. Other treasures of Cobrador Island are its beaches – the most prominent being the wide expanse of fine white sand for about one kilometer on the eastern side of the islet.  Read More:  http://www.wowromblon.com/destinations/natural-attractions/romblon-and-its-natural-attractions/
