Surrounded by lush forests and massive boulders, Maton River is an enchanting stream in Lower Maton. It flows into a small cascade and drains into a small pool at the bottom. Daredevils should definitely experience jumping from the 15-foot outcrop for an exhilarating splash. For the more laid-back visitor, the varying levels of the riverbed make for a good back massage. Pudtol, just like Calanasan, hosts vast areas of dipterocarp forests. These forests feed numerous brooks and streams which then join to form the locally-famed Maton River.

Maton River is now creating a fuss among the tourist spots in Apayao. In fact, its more than a favorite getaway for the local communities. It is now a rising come-on of Pudtol.

The river features numerous pools. These are fit for swimming and boating. Along the lower Maton, there is a favorite pool with a small cascade. Its waters are cool and crystal-clear.

The Upper Maton River is at par with the rest in the Philippines. It is clear as ice especially during the dry season. Along the river are century old trees and millions of plant, wild flowers, orchids and other species. The river has so many rapids and the river has so many fish species. As you travel, monkeys, wild deer and pigs and present in the area. Although it is a hunting ground for the Isnag tribe, the hunt is seasonal. If travel along the river, it’s worth the price.
