THE BEAUTY OF TAWI-TAWI

The name Tawi-Tawi came from the Malay word ‘jauh’ meaning far. According to historians, early traders used to call the islands “jaui-jaui” (far away) referring to its long distance from mainland Asia. And since Tawi-Tawi is the Philippines’ southernmost province, it’s one of the places in the country that is farthest from the capital Metro Manila. This distance allowed Tawi-Tawi to retain its cultural richness in aspects such as religion, food, and local traditions.

But not only is Tawi-Tawi a laid-back destination where you can escape the noise of our modern world, it is also home to some of the warmest people, really delicious food, and breathtaking attractions that you’ll find in the Philippines.  Read More: http://insights.looloo.com/tawi-tawi-top-places-to-visit/

Many people think of mountains as sacred places, and for the people of Tawi-Tawi, their version of a sacred mountain is Bud Bongao. Dominating the landscape of Bongao Island, locals make it a habit to climb the mountain believing that it can heal diseases. From babies held by their mothers, to adults, the mountain for them is a great place to practice their beliefs.

Visitors are also welcome and it takes between 30 minutes to an hour to reach the top. Being the highest point in Tawi-Tawi, it’s a good spot to gaze at the surrounding islands and Bongao town proper.  Read More: http://insights.looloo.com/tawi-tawi-top-places-to-visit/

Bud Bongao or Bongao Peak is the province’s major landmark. Locals hike up this mountain cliff to ask for blessings for good health, to pray in the Muslim shrines along the way, or as a form of thanksgiving. You can take a half-day trip up to Bongao Peak. Hiking up will take 1-2 hrs depending on your pace. The hike takes a bit of effort, but the view from the top is worth it.  Read More:http://www.traveling-up.com/travel-guide-tawi-tawi/

Saluag/Sikulan Island

At the extreme end of the archipelago lies an island so simple and quiet it will deliver anyone into a state of instant tranquility. Get ready to be pampered by the sight of hovering sea eagles, soft waves, and the soaring coconut trees which all utterly complement the bright sunny sky.

Saluag, the southernmost island of the Philippines, is home to two indigenous tribes: Tausug and Sama Dilaut, who live together in perfect harmony with the sea. Their main livelihood includes fishing, boat making and seaweed farming.

In a place where time seems to stand still, a busy and stressful day is probably the last thing you’ll experience. And with the bluish green to emerald water adorning its shore, a visit to Saluag will surely be worth the long travel.  Read More:  http://insights.looloo.com/5-super-remote-philippine-beaches/

Consisting of more than one hundred islands, Tawi-Tawi is certainly an excellent spot to explore and enjoy a number of beaches. And not only are its beaches plenty, mark my word, these are world-class Philippine beaches that we have here.  Read More:http://insights.looloo.com/tawi-tawi-top-places-to-visit/

Ask me what’s the finest white sand beach I ever saw and hands down I will say aloud – Panampangan Island, off the coast of Tawi-Tawi. Panampangan Island White Beach is actually part of the Municipality of Sapa-Sapa, Tawi-Tawi. Some also call this the “virgin beach” because only a few go here. We are 10 in the boat and 9 on us are first-timers. See, how lucky I was thinking that all of them are locals of Tawi-Tawi and Sulu.Going to this island white beach is not that hard. In fact, its just an hour and 15 minutes away from Bongao town. I think if you are renting a boat, it would cost you Php2,500-3,000. Don’t forget to coordinate with the local police for escorts. Although its very peaceful in Tawi-Tawi, having a police escort is very much recommended.  Read More: http://journeyingjames.com/2012/04/panampangan-island-tawi-tawis-finest-white-beach/
