Padagyao Festival

Dagyao is a voluntary and reciprocal group service. The beauty of dagyao is seen in community and group activities such as building or repair of houses and preparation of rice and cornfields. The act of dagyao requires no payment though whoever receives the service is expected to return the service in the future.

The Padagyao Festival centers in the community’s altruistic acts, to express gratitude towards those that participated in the dagyao, the recipient of the gracious act would make the last day of the service as an occasion for indulgences by preparing food and tuba, a favorite local beverage. Rosas sa Baybayon Festival

Activities are celebrated along the beach where guests enjoy the “fun and frolic” with the community during the St. John’s the Baptist Day (June 23rd-24th). It is highlighted with the Search for “Rosas de Baybayon”.

Barangay Suclaran in San Lorenzo town of Guimaras culminated on Sunday its four-day 31st Harvest Festival and Parish Thanksgiving Day celebration. Villagers, with town and barangay officials, kicked off the celebration with a grand parade dubbed “Parada sa Pagpasalamat.”

Sitios showcased how they transformed a “tora-tora” (tractors) into beautiful floats creatively decorated with fruits, vegetables, seashells, among others. Six tribes performed in the Harvest Festival Cultural Dance Contest, followed by Agape meal (Thanksgiving Meal) and lots of parlor games.

The Harvest Festival started as a simple thanksgiving celebration of the Philippine Independent Church, said Liberty Ferrer, OIC provincial tourism officer. It later evolved into a celebration of the barangay, adapted and supported by the municipality, and now, the Province of Guimaras is supporting it, seeing its potential as an attractive community-based tourism activity, she added.
