The Mercedes Kadagatan Festival is a fishermen’s holiday celebration held in Mercedes, Camarines Norte, every August 6-11, in which said festivity is dedicated as a time of annual thanksgiving for the blessings and bounty received from the Almighty during the seafaring, fishing expeditions and fish farming endeavors. The festival is not only a week-long merry making but also a moment of retrospect and recognition of Mother Nature for having endowed Mercedes with a gift of vast fishery resources, magnificent shorelines and other aquatic potentials and the wise utilization and preservation of ecological balance for the attainment of environmental dignity and beauty. The word “Kadagatan” comes from “dagat,” which means “ocean” in Filipino. The festival celebrates Mercedes’ rich marine resources, and is a joyous supplicaiton for the continued prosperity of the town’s fishermen.

The Kadagatan Festival is for adults, children, seniors, sports lovers, art enthusiasts, cultural admirers, environmental devotees, pageant fans – basically, everyone! The Kadagatan Festival in the town of Mercedes, Camarines Norte, Bicol is a celebration that gives thanks for the bountiful harvest of the sea. Locals pay tribute to Mother Nature for the blessings she has given with a week-long series of events. Festivities include boat racing, street dancing, float parades, and various exhibitions. The mascot parade featuring fish and other marine creatures showcases the creativity of the locals.
