The Saginyogan (Coco-Banana) Festival was initially organized and presented in 2010 town fiesta. The presentation was participated in by the pupils from the different schools in the district of Alcantara. The presentation was in a form of a contest. However, the 2011 Fiesta Management thought of changing its title to Saginyogan Festival to make it common and striking to the community people; making the title different from other municipalities in the province having the same festival.

The Saginyogan Festival is an annual celebration in the Municipality of Alcantara held every 21st of March (Town Fiesta). From the name itself, the festival showcases and displays the abundance of saging (banana) and niyog (coconut) in the municipality.  This is in celebration of the 58th Founding Anniversary of the Municipality of Alcantara.

Thousands of people visited Alcantara last Thursday to celebrate and experience the 2019 Saginyogan Festival, one of the famous festivals in th\ne province of Romblon. The town of Alcantara holds a festival that is inspired for the thanksgiving of the town’s rich agricultural resources. The festival is celebrated every 19th to 20th of March, the celebration features Alcantara’s most versatile and most produced farm product- Saging (Banana) and Niyog (Coconut). During the event, the creativity of each participant is challenged by thinking of ways on how to use the different parts of the said products. Saginyogan festival is a 2-day joyful celebration where participants wear vibrant costumes out of indigenous materials from Saging and Niyog.
