Deagan Island Used To House An Ex-President’s Mansion

Deagan Island and Marine Sanctuary is located in Naro Bay, Dimasalang, Masbate. It is a scenic island off Palanas coast noted for its beautiful beaches and colorful fishes. From Masbate Fish Port, ride a van going to Dimasalang and ask the driver to drop you off at the Pier going to Porta Vega. From the high way, just walk for around 500m and you will reach the Pier and find a boat that will bring you to Deagan and Porta Vega. For a group of less than 5 persons, you can fit in a small motorized boat and will reach Deagan in 15 minutes. From here, it will take you another 15 minutes or less to reach Porta Vega.

Deagan Island is just across the Pier. There is a little community in this island. Based on what I read on the net, this place was owned by the Marcos’. When I asked our boatman, he said that yes but only a part of it but not the whole island. Dip your sweating body and be refreshed. While crossing Deagan to Porta Vega, we noticed a good sight for snorkeling but due to high expectations in Porta Vega, we just ignore it and proceed to Porta Vega. Afterward, we stopped by Deagan Island, which reportedly was owned by Ferdinand Marcos at one time. After he was ousted, the locals took his mansion back…piece by piece. Now there are just a few scattered remnants near the fishing village. History buffs might want to come here, but from what I can tell, Porta Vega Beach is even nicer.
