Every year during December 2, there is a festival held in the town of Palompon, Leyte in the Philippines to celebrate the feast of Saint Francis Xavier.

Since the town of Palompon is a coastal town, they are celebrating Lawig Festival asking for good fishing harvest and good weather from the patron saint. Contestants of different parts of the town join as they do the street dancing competition with their colorful costumes. Palompon’s Lawig Festival is an image of the true essence of ” the joy of love”. Last December 2 2016, our town has once again captured the heart of everyone who witnessed the eleven contingents showdown vying for the Annual Lawig Festival 2016.The selection was categorized in three division: Group A) for the Elementary, Group B) for the High School, Group C) for the open Category. The Lawig Festival name takes its foundation from the Bisayan word, “Lawig” – meaning, “to sail on” – which its founders and organizers envision to crystalize the Palomponganon’s relentless optimism, courage and fighting spirit in facing life’s challenges and opportunities for growth.

Organized and spearheaded by the Local Government Unit of Palompon, the 1st Lawig Festival was held December 02, 2011 and saw the participation of 12 colorful contingents, all from within its municipal jurisdiction.
