Two and a half kilometers away from the town proper is a small road going to the northwestern barangays of Mayoyao. After a short ascent, the path along a gorge turned narrower. In about 25 minutes of moderately-paced walk, we reached Tenogtog Falls.

Tenogtog is an Ifugao word which means chopped. It was in this place where hunters chopped their game and share it to others who unfortunately had none that day.

Tenogtog is a segmented waterfall that dynamically drops to a small basin. On that late afternoon of October 9, I saw themajestic Tenogtog. The drizzle and the afternoon overcast made Tenogtog a lot more beautiful and charming. The tradeoff however was that the mist and the small pool and viewing area made it harder for me to capture the fullness of its beauty and majesty.  Photo from:  http://harrybalais.com/2014/10/chasing-waterfalls-tenogtog-falls/

Ambuwaya Lake

Legends says that Ambuwaya Lake was once a large sitio that became a lake because of the killing and making fun of leech in the spring by some children. The lake is deep and good for swimming and boating. The shaded surroundings is an ideal place for picnics. It is now the site of a research on fishing culture. The lake is about four (4) kilometers from the town center of Kiangan and can be reached by four wheel drive vehicles.

When we got to Bogyah Hot Springs, there were locals relaxing in the hot spring. I did not mind, this was their place and I was happy that while dipping on the hot pool I get to know some bits and pieces of their life.

They told us the part of the small pool where there is cold water coming from Hapao River and the side of the pool that is the hottest. The taught us a technique that when you move the water the temperature significantly drops making it easier to adjust.

After the long walk on the rice terraces it certainly felt good to dip in the healthy sulfuric hot springs. Read More:  http://www.lakas.com.ph/2012/05/bogyah-hot-spring-in-hungduan-ifugao/
