UNOY FESTIVAL

This festival is held in thanksgiving to an abundant harvest of the Unoy rice and other agricultural products of the people of Tinglayan, a municipality of Kalinga. It also aims to promote Unoy rice as Kalinga’s most sought-after agricultural product.

Tinglayanos noble people of Kalinga celebrate the whole month of April as a thanksgiving festival for the abundant harvest of Unoy Rice, the common and quality product of Tinglayan Kalinga, that is now getting popular in the market because of the health benefits.

Unoy Festival is rice festival, which means excellent quality and the finest crop of the province. This is the grand celebration of the province of Kalinga.

The traditional street dance parade for the opening of the festival, followed by the rituals officiated by the elders and government officials of Tinglayan, Kalinga as a show of respect to the tradition and culture of their ancestors. The highlight of the festival is rice wine competition. Traditional dance and music are played in the celebration.

Unoy Festival is a marking passage from one person and to his family, from a common folk to a nobility status in the community. A kind of tradition that will be passed from generation to generation.
