TOURIST DESTINATIONS
IN SAMAR

Samar is divided into three parts – Northern Samar, Western Samar and Eastern Samar. For purposes of clarity, Western Samar is simply referred to or called SAMAR.

Samar province is caught between mountain and sea.  It is hilly, with mountain peaks and narrow strips of lowlands, which tend to lie in coastal peripheries or in the alluvial plains and deltas accompanying large rivers.  It includes almost every kind of topography: mountains, forests, rivers, lakes, plains, coasts, and islands and is blessed with a lush rain forest harboring tropical flora and fauna, crossed by multiple navigable rivers, pocked by mysterious caverns and refreshing waterfalls. A tourist wanting something out of the ordinary may experience all these wonders of nature and still only be a few hours from civilization.  Read More:  http://www.tourism.gov.ph/SitePages/InteractiveSitesPage.aspx?siteID=47

Bangon Falls

Foremost among the wonders of Samar’s “City of Waterfalls” is Bangon-Bugtong Falls. Travelling to this waterfall from Calbayog entails taking a 1hr 15 min ride to Brgy. Tinaplacan, and then a 3-km walk from the highway (which can also be habal-habal ride). Kinda far, but well worth it.

The waterfall is actually a system of cascades; to get to the main falls you have to walk on the cascades themselves. This ascending route will culminate in the main falls, which has a large, circular pool. Swimming, after the long ride, is refreshing. Just be careful because there are very slippery portions, just like any waterfall. Also, long habal-habal rides are quite expensive; so it is best to travel by groups or really prepare a budget. Although Calbayog is just one city, it is actually larger than the subprovince of Biliran Island!  –  Read More:  http://www.pinoymountaineer.com/2007/12/bangon-bugtong-falls.html

Bugasan and Kapigtan Caves

Found also within the Sohoton National Park are the Bugasan and Kapigtan Caves.  These are smaller caves compared to Sohoton and Panhulugan caves.  The only difference of these caves of the that to Sohoton is the presence of concavities where ancient remains had been found dating to the Stone and Iron Age period. – Read More:  http://www.samar.lgu-ph.com/tourism.htm

Danao Cave

The unexplored Danao Cave is situated at Brgy. Danao I, Tinambacan district, some 114 kilometers towards the western coast of the city of Calbayog.  It is made up of seven (7) chambers inhabited by various species of snakes and bats as evidenced by a good deposit of guano.  The cave serves as an initiating hive for those who want to acquire talisman. – Read More:  http://www.samar.lgu-ph.com/tourism.htm
