Cagayan de Oro’s annual fiesta celebration, popularly known as Higalaay Festival, is a week-long festivity filled with a series of colorful, culturally-rich and fun-filled core events that culminate on the 28th of August, the feast day of the city’s patron saint, St. Augustine.

The celebration has grown not only as the customary day of thanksgiving but also as a rallying point for a campaign to promote Cagayan de Oro City and the surrounding areas globally as an investment and tourism destination. Every August of the year, we commemorate the most celebrated event of Cagayan de Oro, the culture-rich and colorful Higalaay Festival. It is particularly held on the 28th day of August, which is the feast day of St. Augustine– patron saint of the City of Cagayan de oro. The said festival is an almost three-week celebration due to its series of activities that start even on the first week of August. From pageant competitions, marathons, agricultural trade fairs, cultural street dancing parade, exhibition and sponsored events to patron and fluvial parade, Higalaay Festival has a lot to offer. Higalaay means Friendship, thus Cagayan de Oro is known to be the city of Golden Friendship. CDO strategically located in the northern part of Region 10. The city serves as the gateway to all visiting tourists and locals in the city. Cagayan de Oro welcome them with its distinct gestures of hospitality.

Every month of August, the city government spearheaded the celebration in honor of St. Augustine. It is a month-long celebration that showcased the bountiful harvests of Kagay-anons, top tourist destinations, delicacies, history and diverse yet united colorful cultures and traditions.
