MINDORO BEACH

On this second visit, I was totally mesmerized by Mindoro Beach. I have no idea that Vigan City has a beach, let alone a black sand beach. I know how rare these kinds of beaches are, and it was the first time for me to experience such.

Although foreign tourists will die for a black sand beach, this kind of sand, however, is not very popular with the Filipino beach-goers. And it is quite apparent during our visit; there were hardly anyone on the beach except us and three locals body slamming with the waves. Before our scheduled heading back to Manila, the beach was our destination. From a distance, the vast stretch of black sand seems like a barren area. It was an abandoned and uninhabited place with our group as the pirates.

Though the weather was fine, the waves were unforgivable. We took a dip and loiter around waiting for the sun to set. Mindoro Beach of Vigan City is one of the best black sand beaches in the Philippines.The best beaches have always been associated with fine white sand.

It has almost been the same as saying that a lady with white complexion is beautiful. But we must not generalize too much as black can indeed be beautiful. Mindoro beach is certainly comparable to the long line of lists provided as the best beaches of the Philippines. Vigan may be well known for its famous Heritage Village whose houses date back to the Spanish era. But there is one spot in the town where a beach can be found, one of the favorite places for past time by the locals and is also frequently visited by the tourist. This beach is located in Barangay Mindoro, located five kilometers east of the town center.

The beach, which faces the West Philippine Sea, has dark but fine sands. During our visit the waves are insignificant, but it did not deter the visitors from enjoying their swim. The beach never fails to have people, whether locals or tourists. During one of our previous visits, we saw a group of students from India who are studying in Vigan having fun in the waters.

The beach draws more people as dusk approaches. Like most places on the Philippines west coast, it offers a beautiful view of the sunset. The beach also has cottages where people can take a rest while feeling the fresh air. There are also stores selling light snacks. The police outposts here gives an additional sense of security. One of the features that grab attention is the concrete breakwaters that looked like giant jackstones. These features absorb strong waves before reaching the shore.
