Camiguin may be recognized more for White Island and the Sunken Cemetery landmark, but there is another thing you’ll surely love about the island province, and that is the existence of century old buildings. One of these is the Guiob Church Ruins or also known as the Old Church Ruins in the town of Catarman.

Located in Brgy. Bonbon, Catarman, the Old Church Ruins is presently under the care of the local government. Upon arriving at the location of the ruins, the only thing that made me recognize it as a church are the candle (and other religious crafts) vendors outside. The Guiob Church Ruins is located at Barangay Bonbon, Catarman, Camiguin in the Philippines. Constructed in the 16th century, it is an old church of the island’s Spanish-era capital called Cotta Bato. It is approximately 30 minutes from the town center of Mambajao and about 7 minutes from the Sunken Cemetery which also suffered from the volcanic eruptions

The church of the Old Catarman town was destroyed and partly submerged by volcanic debris during the eruption and formation of Mount Vulcan on May 13, 1871.
