Samar is divided into three parts – Northern Samar, Western Samar and Eastern Samar. For purposes of clarity, Western Samar is simply referred to or called SAMAR.

The Philippines will never ran out of waterfalls. One might be famous today then new one will going to be discovered tomorrow. When I visited Lulugayan falls, I really don’t have any idea how it looks like because of 2 reasons. First, it wasn’t part of my prospects when I visited Samar and second, I just don’t know that it exists.

Lulugayan falls is located in the town of Calbiga Samar, it’s the same town where the biggest cave in the Philippines is. When I visited Calbiga, my one and only mission is to visit the cave. I knew that Samar have a lot of amazing waterfalls, I just didn’t know or I maybe not paying attention that there is one in Calbiga. The local folklore about Lulugayan Waterfalls derived its name from a fairy whose hair, when let loose, or nakalugay in Filipino, is about as long as the height of the waterfalls.

The Lulugayan Falls forms part of the Buffer Zone covering the Samar Island National Park. The terrain leading to the site is challenging but the full view of the Lulugayan Falls is replaced by an inspiring and mesmerizing experience of gazing at another mother nature’s work. Oh, the Lulugayan Falls. I almost forgot about that. It’s a massive falls that feeds water to the Calbiga River. The current is strong and could easily sweep you off where you’re standing if you’re not careful. So we hired some guides to help us not only find our way to Lulugayan, but also to get across the river and climb up the falls.

The falls has cool, refreshing waters that would make you wish you never had to return to the city ever again. And by the way, when you’re considering visiting the falls, you need to take a habal-habal from the town proper of Calbiga to Barangay Litiron where the falls can be found. The trip costs P50 one way per person if you’re in a group, or P300 roundtrip if you’re traveling solo. It’s good money spent driving on bumpy roads, while catching a glimpse into the life in the more rural portions of Calbiga, such as the nipa huts, folks taking bamboo to town on their motorcycles, and the ubiquitous sari-sari store (a typical Philippine store that sells essential household needs such as food, soap, etc.).  Read More:  http://www.galapinoyredux.com/2011/10/journalism-101-at-the-lulugayan-falls/
