The festival is held every May 3rd, the eve of the patronal fiesta of Pavia. It is said to be the province’s oldest institutionalized festival. Hundreds of people gather up early in the morning to see the parade of intricately designed carabao carts made from indigenous materials, along with the trusty water buffalo and the maidens of the barrios, vying to be the town fiesta’s queen.

On late morning, the feast is highlighted with carabaos racing up towards the finish line. Farmers and their trustworthy carabaos gather in the High School grounds for the event. Spectators fill up this late morning spectacle, some betting on their best carabaos, others watch for the thrill. The carabaos, geared with their carts on their back, race together with their dear farmer to win the prize.
