Kadagatan Festival is held in Bacacay, Albay every Black Saturday.

The first Bancathon Race was held in 1982, coinciding with Black Saturday of the Holy Week, the traditional Catholic celebration of the passion of Jesus Christ at Roca Baluarte, one of the historical tourist sites in Bacacay of the Province of Albay.

Innovations in the competition were conceived to add more color and excitement to the race. Other sea crafts were included in that race such as balsa an casco.

The inclusion of other types of sea crafts had expanded the annual sea race with participants from other coastal areas in Albay and neighboring regions in the country. These various races had likewise invited more spectators to witness the grand race, prompting the local organizers to alter the name of Bancathon.  Read More:  http://paradisephilippinesinfo.blogspot.com/2008/03/kadagatan-festival-of-albay.html

The town of Tiwi, Albay celebrates  Coron Festival from August 15-17.  “Coron” is a local word which means potteries or clay-plot. Back in the early 17th century, sticky clay was found at a hilly area near the sea which the early settlers used for molding different products. Since then, pottery has become the town’s major source of income. The event is highlighted by a street dancing presentation.  Elementary and Secondary schools participate in the drum and majorette competition to add color to the festival. The townspeople pay tribute to the patron saints which are St. Lawrence the Martyr and Our Lady of Salvation. One of the festival’s goal is to promote local tourism.
