Suhot Cave and Spring

Suhot Cave and Cold Spring in barangay Dolores has a newly built seven-room accommodation for overnighters and a number of nipa huts which may be rented for day excursions. Before the building was built, the caves and spring were the main attraction, attracting excursionists from as far as Iloilo. “During the Holy Week, a group of manggagamot or albularyos from Iloilo City would go inside the cave from Ash Wednesday until Easter Sunday. They would drink only water to sustain themselves. It is believed that the cave possesses energy that renews the healing powers of these albularyos.

The place got the name suhot, which means lumusot or to go under, because the cave is very long and it is believed to have a connecting tunnel leading to another cave six kilometers away called the Badiang cave, located in the middle of the dense jungle of neighboring town Dumarao. The cave used to have a small opening in the old days, and served as a makeshift hospital during the Japanese occupation. At 18 kilometers, the Suhot Cave is one of the longest in the country, but only two kilometers have been explored so far. “Few have tried to go explore the length and breadth of the caves because you could get lost inside. There is a spot there that branches out into more channels, going deep into god knows where. One thing we know for sure, one channel exits to the municipality in Dumarao, as some of the locals have tried it. It took them seven days.

The province of Capiz offers many natural beauties for people to explore and experience from their fresh bounties of the sea to cold springs hidden in lush forests. And if you want to dip in cold water and have some exploration, head to the caves of Capiz.  Read More:  https://katperayno.wordpress.com/

Santa Monica Parish Church Bell

The quiet town of Panay is home to several national cultural treasures —the Santa Monica Parish Church (commonly known as Panay Church) is considered the oldest in the whole island of Panay, and dakong lingganay is known as the largest church bell in Asia and third biggest in the world.

Measuring 7 feet in diameter, 5 feet in height and weighing 10.4 metric tons, it was definitely the biggest bell that I’ve ever seen.

This bell was completed in 1878 through the donations of the local people which amounted to about 70 sacks of gold and silver coins. The old bells dates back to 1721.  Read More:  http://www.backpackingpilipinas.com/2014/09/panays-dakong-lingganay-biggest-church.html

Quipot Cave

30 minute ride over rough roads, it is about 3 km. from the Mambusao Agricultural and Technical College or around 9 km. from the town proper. Wild birds, deer, and wild ducks abound in the place. Near the cave is a stream. The cave consists of many chambers, each at a level different from other chambers. In certain sections, one has to crawl because the space between the roof and cave floor is just two or three feet. There are also sections that seem like a dead end, except for small openings through which only one person can crawl. These holes lead to a chamber as big as a hotel ballroom, which is why it is dubbed as the “Quipot Hilton”. There are plenty of stalactites and stalagmites. The cave is cool inside.  Read More:  http://travelcapiz.blogspot.com/2011/10/quipot-cave-bgy-burias-mambusao.html

The Moro Tower is a historic landmark, which, surprisingly, remains unfamiliar to most Capiznons. Until recently, I thought Moro Towers only exist in other parts of the country until I was able to glance at the local history books of Capiz and yes, there are indeed Moro Towers in my hometown.
The Moro Towers were built by the Spanish authorities in 1814 to protect the province from marauding Moros and Portuguese pirates. They were built from black pebbles and once stood up to 20 ft high.  Read More:  http://bocapiz.blogspot.com/2014/02/moro-tower-sitio-nipa-roxas-city.html

The industrious people of Capiz have harvested with their own hands the various riches of the waters around them and have lived this way for generations.  Over the years, they have learned to hone their skills and have tried raising fish themselves, establishing the Lapu-Lapu Growing Farm, which is significant to the economy of the province.

Along Palina River in Brgy. Cagay, Roxas City can be found thousands of fish cages raising green groupers of the species Epinaphalus Tauvina, Epinaphalus Malabaricus,Tauvina and Cocoedis, or what is locally known as “Lapu-lapu”. The seed stocks come from as far as Mindoro, Leyte, Aklan and from the neighboring town of Sapian. 420 pieces of Lapu-lapu seed stocks are placed in each 3×3 m fish cage. The fish thrive on mussel, tilapia, and some small fish. From seed stocks of 2-3 inches, the fish are grown to harvestable size weighing 450-500 gms. after 6 months. The average harvest per day of one fish grower is 4,500 kls per month. The bulk of this harvest is sent to Metro Manila. The fish farm is one of the largest with 1,500 fish cages in an area of 28,000 sq. m.  Read More:  https://www.vigattintourism.com/index.php?/tourism/articles/The-Lapu-Lapu-Growing-Farm
