Rice, the nation’s staple food, is celebrated in fiestas and festivals worldwide. In the Philippines, primarily an agricultural country, rice festivals are held from January to October each year to mark planting and harvesting. The month of April is “Panagyaman Rice Festival Month” pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 606 issued in 2004 to honor Filipino farmers and their families.
“Panagyaman” is the Ilocano term for thanksgiving. Rice festivals are held in many provinces: Ani and Mannalon in Ilocos Norte, Sinanggiyaw in Cebu, Pahiyas in Quezon, Pasalamat in Negros Occidental, and Pagdiwata in Mindoro. – https://ph.news.yahoo.com/editorial-panagyaman-rice-festival-month-000502755.html
